Hello sir,
My wife is currently 8 weeks pregnant. I have been contributing to ESI for 4 years, and we have not taken any other insurance policy. Additionally, I have not obtained an ESI Pehchan card yet. Could you please guide me on how to avail the maternity benefits?
Thank you.

1. Sir, there is not much lengthy procedure to get medical benefits in case of maternity of your wife. However, you must possess an ESIC Pehchan Card with your wife's name on it. I think you will make efforts to obtain the card through your employer/HR.
2. Maternity benefits are payable only to covered women (i.e., to covered female employees only), and in the case of a family member, i.e., the wife, only medical facilities are available if the employee (her husband) is covered under the above Act. You are also required to have your wife undergo periodic medical check-ups from an authorized ESI Dispensary Doctor or ESI Hospital to which you are attached, and get necessary guidance, medicines, etc.
3. In view of the above, I hope you will contact the ESIC Branch Office Manager immediately to obtain the Pehchan Card, and please ensure that the names of your wife and other family members are correctly entered on the said card by the office. After that, you can also contact the ESIS dispensary or hospital as per your requirement. With best wishes.

Dear Anamika,
You have to link Aadhaar Numbers of yourself and your wife to your ESI Insurance Number immediately for availing benefits under ESI Coverage. You can also log in to ESI IP Portal with your insurance number to know about eligibility for various benefits.
