Good morning, I need your valuable assistance. Currently, I am associated with an MNC. I have resigned from my position on 05/09/2017 and completed my 45-day notice period as per my contract with the company. This resignation was accepted. Initially, my supervisor informed me that my last working day would be 06/22/2017. However, during a meeting on 05/17/2017 regarding redeployment, the senior manager mentioned that my notice period was being reduced, and I would be released on 05/31/2017, which goes against my preference. I wish to serve my full notice period.
Clarifications needed
I have two clarifications:
1. Does the company have the right to shorten the notice period without consulting me?
2. If yes, could you please provide details of the relevant clause in the contract?
Sincerely,
Dev

Dear Devapvijayam,
For a clear answer, you need to refer to your appointment letter. Most of the time, the appointment letter states that the notice period can be served, or you can pay the difference, as agreed by both parties. In the above-given case, if your letter includes this clause, then your company is due to pay the difference in the notice period that you are willing to serve but they do not want you to.
Thank you.
