Dear All,

Greetings!

We have 3000 square feet of area on each floor for the IT company, which includes one reception area, 2 conference rooms, one small pantry, and one server room. We are planning to install Fire Fighting instruments on the walls. Can you please provide guidance on any specified rules or guidelines for this installation? For example, how many cylinders should we install, what capacity they should be, and where they should be placed (e.g., server room or reception area).

I am inquiring about any standards that may be defined for the IT industry.

Thank you in advance to all who will share their views on this matter.

Dear Mr. Mahavir Singh,

Fire Safety law is the same for all industries. The officials use the NBC code to determine the requirements of fire fighting equipment. For better guidance, you can call the officials for an inspection. Roughly, if your building exceeds 15 meters and/or if you have a basement and a work station area exceeding 200 sqm, you should install fire sprinklers on each floor. Additionally, apart from providing adequate (what is adequate can be defined by the officials themselves), fire extinguishers should be placed on each floor and a fire hydrant should be present.

Fire fighting equipment such as fire extinguishers, fire hydrants, ample water supply, and storage of water underground or overhead should be provided. Additionally, sprinklers should be added and not used as a substitute.

Thank you.
