Respected all,

Kindly inform me about the ESIC half-yearly return as I am not familiar with it. If the ESIC half-yearly return needs to be submitted to the local office, please provide me with the details of the return along with the due date.

This is urgent. Your prompt assistance is greatly appreciated.

Yours faithfully,
Virender Singh

Mr. Virender Singh,

Go to Employer Login in your ESI Portal. Go to the link "View RC". Select the required Half-Yearly Period and download the report. Take a printout. Ensure that the authorized signatory with the seal is on both the first and last pages.

Submit the papers to the local ESI Office with a covering letter. Alternatively, go to the link "Self Certification" on the ESI Portal. Select the Half-Yearly Period and upload the signed papers (scanned copy).

Hope this information is helpful.

@glidor,

Physical RC Return is not mandatory, but the "Self Certification" option is not abolished. For reference, please go through the attachment. Also, please check with the ESI Officials.

During Finance Audit, ESI Half Yearly return is helpful.

RC printout is an important factor for finance audit. That's why the section is present on the portal to ascertain the six-monthly block and rate of compensation payable for sick/accident leaves. Regarding the physical submission of H/Y returns, enclosed is the official notification which is self-explanatory.

@glidor,

Even in your attachment, it was mentioned about the non-mandatory clause of hardcopy submission of RC. However, it didn't mention the eradication of "Self Certification," which is used to upload the self-signed RC. That is why it is present on the portal.

Employers are not required to submit the hard or soft copies of the Return of Contributions. Repeat hard or soft copies. Self-certification submission is also not mandatory, but for safeguarding and taking the printouts would be helpful to the employer in case of any surprise record check.

RC self-certification is there. In the absence of this, the employer would be in the dark about their dues, average wages, and contribution period details, as most employers have stopped Contribution Register maintenance in RC5 (earlier RC6).

@Virender,

I forgot to mention in my first reply that in the printout, along with the Authorized signatory, Chartered Accountant Authorization is also required in the return papers.

Once the upload is done through "Self Certification" in the ESI Portal, take the "Screenshot of the confirmation window", keep the original hardcopy return safe for future audit and reference.

The need for submitting half-year returns has been eliminated by the Corporation. However, it is a good idea to obtain a printout of the same (especially for contractors) and check each month's entries against the corresponding challan. There have been instances where funds were transferred to SBI but did not reach ESIC, leading to them issuing a notice.
