Dear All,

I have resigned from my current organization without a notice period due to an accident. I took a 1-month leave, and then I decided to resign. I gave a late update to my boss about the resignation and the accident. In the resignation email, I requested to provide an experience certificate and pending salary.

However, my boss accepted my sudden resignation and agreed about the salary.

:: Like this, I got a reply from my boss ::

"Thanks for the late update. Sorry to learn about your current plight! I really wish you had informed us on time about the accident. I am wondering why you delayed this and did not bring it to our attention on time via formal correspondence! However, we will process the pending salary disbursement on September 1st. Wish you a speedy recovery! Please coordinate with Mrs. Kurup."

I wish to write a thanksgiving email to my boss. Could you help me in drafting such an email?

Awaiting your early response.

Regards, Maggi

Dear Maggi,

If you read carefully or read between the lines of the mail that your "boss" sent you, then you will find that on the one side, your boss has shown empathy for your accident and at the same time expressed his displeasure for your lack of communication. Therefore, this mail can be construed as an "acceptance of resignation" mail, and at this stage, no further correspondence is required. Once you receive all your dues, send him a thank-you mail for settling your dues on time.

Before quitting the company, obtain clearance from the departments and ensure that no outstanding dues are against you. Make sure any company property allotted to you is returned. Keep a second copy of the handing/taking over certificate with you.

Thanks,

Respected Sir,

Thank you for accepting my resignation. Sorry for the late update about my accident. I had already informed Mrs. Krup (Supervisor) about my accident and health condition. It's my mistake that I should have informed you earlier about my accident, and I apologize for the delayed update. I thought to rejoin once I recovered, which is why I did not inform you. However, my illness will require extended treatment and recovery. I have been advised to rest full time to recover fully. Therefore, I have decided to resign from my job.

I would like to express my gratitude for the experience you have provided me while working with DataSoft Networks, and I wish you all the best for the future success of the company. I believe DataSoft Networks has a promising future, and I regret not being a part of it.

Best Wishes.

Yours sincerely,

A. Radhika

I would like to include a line thanking you for settling my due salary. Could someone help me write a formal thank-you letter?

Thanks in advance.

Dear Radhika,

Your draft is a little wordy and needs to be more concise. Please see the revised draft below:

Dear Sir,

I received your email confirming the acceptance of my resignation. Thank you for accepting it.

I had previously sent an email to Mrs. Kurup (Supervisor) on [date] regarding an accident and my deteriorated health. Unfortunately, it seems that this email did not reach you as I did not CC you on it.

Due to my unexpected delayed recovery, I have decided to resign from my position in order to shorten my prolonged absence.

I did not foresee that my departure from DataSoft Networks would occur under these circumstances. Despite this, I am grateful for the smooth experience during my time here. I would like to extend my deepest appreciation to the staff of DataSoft Networks, especially our team, for their assistance and cooperation. I also want to thank you for your support and guidance whenever it was needed. While my tenure at DataSoft Networks has ended abruptly, I will hold onto the positive memories for a long time.

Warm regards,

A. Radhika

I hope this meets your requirements.

Thanks,

Dinesh Divekar

Radhika, I think your letter is perfect for the purpose. Since it is in the manner and pattern you normally use, it makes more sense than to take a format from the net or made by someone else, however much it is a better format. If you use a formal tone, it looks like you are replying as a formality. If you use your own draft, it looks like you are genuinely writing what you feel. So stick to it. Your language and drafting skills are pretty good, so no worry on that account.

If you wish to add a line thanking for the clearing of salary without notice, do add that line, again in the pattern you always write. You may also add a line saying perhaps once you are well (which I assume will be a long time), if there are positions available, you will be considered for the same. That would be in line with the thought put in the rest of your letter. Of course, do it only if you would really like to rejoin.
