Hi, I want to make performance based incentives plan for all the Head of Departments. can i have a format for that? how to go about it?

Dear Ssamtrust,

Sending a letter is of secondary importance. The primary important thing is how you measure performance and what you choose to measure. Generally, salespersons are given incentives because it is easy to measure whether they have achieved the sales target or not. Therefore, the question arises: Have you decided on the parameters by which performance will be measured? If yes, then include those parameters for each Head of Department (HOD).

Designing measures of performance is not easy; it requires immense expertise. I have seen cases where organizations suffered losses while individuals were praised for their performance. I trust that you have avoided this contradiction. Therefore, when designing performance measures, consider the organizational performance as well.

The next step is measuring the costs associated with each department. There are direct costs associated with each department. Have you identified those costs? Each cost must be assigned to the respective HOD, and managing these costs is the responsibility of each HOD.
