Approach your regional ESIC office with your family members to get a permanent ID card. Even though you have an expired TIC, they will provide you with medical treatment in Dispensaries. They are not demanding a permanent card in most dispensaries. However, it is better to obtain a permanent card to avail benefits without any hassles.

1. Sir, a Permanent Identity Card (Pehchan Card), including a family card, is essential for claiming any facilities from any medical institutions of ESIC. There are no instructions issued by ESIC on the issue that without presenting his Pehchan Card, the insured person will be taken care of in medical institutions of ESIC.

2. In case the TIC has expired, the insured person should immediately contact the appropriate Branch Office of ESIC to which the said unit is attached for extending the eligibility of said worker for another period depending upon their instructions or rules.

3. Further, the Regional/Sub/Divisional Office of ESIC has nothing to do with the preparation or providing of Permanent Identity Card to insured persons or their family members. Such functions of preparation of Identity Card or family Identity Cards are the subject matter of Branch Offices only. Further, the Regional/Sub/Divisional Offices of ESIC are located at a long distance from the area, and it is not convenient for any worker or his family to visit such a long distance for the work for which it is not an appropriate office.

4. I will request Sh. Stephen_7, who recorded the above remarks, to kindly place on record the copies of instructions issued by ESIC in support of his remarks as mentioned above so that I may also be able to update my knowledge accordingly. I personally feel that there is no justification, especially on this esteemed citeHR, to record advice to a vast network of its customers/members that is not legally correct and not based on any documentary evidence.

Incident with Employee ID Card

This incident happened to one of our employees. He didn't take a permanent ID card for more than a year. He went and complained to the regional office that he was not given treatment for not having a permanent ID card. They immediately responded that the dispensary never refuses to provide treatment for not having a permanent ID card. They asked for the date and time the member went to the dispensary to inquire, but he could not provide the same.

The employee then went to the dispensary, availed treatment, and took sick leave benefits.

According to the rules, they have to approach the regional office with family members to get a permanent ID card immediately. However, they may have been directed to provide treatment to members even though they don't have a permanent card.

So, I have been providing information based on practical experience to avoid panic. The acts can be read by downloading them from the internet; it is not required to discuss here.

Has anyone been rejected by the dispensary when approached with an expired TIC card?
