Dear Kashif,

What is the nature of your industry? Have you made job descriptions for all the positions? Have you studied systems and processes of each department? After doing that, could you identify the direct costs and indirect costs of each department? The process of designing KPIs or KRAs starts thereafter. When you do all this, you will be able to institute a comprehensive Performance Management System (PMS) for the entire organization. Do not look for the development of KPIs and KRAs in isolation. Business performance is far more important and it cannot be ignored as such. By downloading the KPIs from some website, you may fulfill the requirement, but it could be half fulfillment and may not be complete.

Though the heading of the above post is about an IT company, the reply is applicable to all industries. In the link above, you will find a few more links. I recommend you go through all the links patiently. This will help you in clearing your misgivings if any, on the subject of PMS.

Developing competence in designing KPIs is a time-taking process. It requires working under some expert. Else, you may do more damage than good.

This cannot be done just with collaboration in a forum like this. Certainly, you will get a good number of suggestions, opportunities to refer valuable materials, etc. However, formulating KPAs and KPIs specific to your organization requires dedicated effort. My suggestion is to constitute a core committee in-house and either select somebody from your organization to lead it or hire an expert from outside.
