Dear friends,

Please refer to the following news article:
Pay techie Rs 12.5 lakh for sacking her, Karnataka labour department orders US-based firm

The news sheds light on the following issues:
a) Employee unfriendliness prevalent in IT companies
b) HR's lack of courage to foster a culture of justice within the organization
c) Use of jargon like "Employee Engagement," which is often emphasized by HR in high-profile MNCs

Will HR accept moral responsibility for this incident? Will any action be taken against the manager who harassed the junior techie?

Dear Divakar,

Is there any way I can get hold of this decision of the IT department? More than compensation for retrenchment, the harassment angle is what I am interested in. If she has indeed been compensated for harassment, it would be a landmark decision.

Hello Dinesh,

In my view, HR is the most critical part of the organization that has to play a justified role for all employees, managers, as well as employees. Nowhere should the organization have spurious policies, but HR has to handle them appropriately, being fair to every employee and supporting genuine employees, which will nurture a great company culture.

Taking responsibility and doing the right thing is the action that everyone is looking for.
