Recently, on July 19th, I attended an interview for the position of .Net developer at an MNC located in Chennai. I cleared two rounds of technical discussions, and the project manager informed me that I was selected. He mentioned that he would provide positive feedback to HR about me and advised me to discuss further with HR.

During the HR round, she mentioned that I received good feedback and we discussed details about the internal project I was selected for (which is expected to start within a month), benefits, expected salary, notice period (she prefers me to join within 30 days, but my actual notice period is 45 days, so I mentioned the buyout option). She also asked for my personal details and requested my last 3 months' salary slips. She mentioned that I could expect a follow-up call on July 21st (Monday) to discuss the breakup plan further.

However, I have not received any response from her via email or phone until now. I reached out to her twice via email on July 22nd and 28th, and I called her twice on July 23rd and 30th. Initially, she asked for a day to wait for management approval. When I followed up today, she mentioned she was on medical leave and requested more time to update me.

I have doubts about whether I have been rejected for the position. I am concerned about the prolonged processing time. Am I being bothersome to HR? Am I still being considered for the position? She seems to avoid spending even 2 minutes speaking with me, always asking for more time. Could the delay indicate that I am not selected?

If I do not receive any response from her, should I call her back? Any suggestions or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

No one can vouch whether you would get a call or not, except the company. That is the reason you don't see any replies here.

Since the project is going to start only in September, the company might have decided to defer your Date of Joining by a few days. We do not know whether the project encountered a last-minute hurdle or not. It is not over yet. Still, keep looking for other opportunities too.

Yes, you are right, HR4NATION. The project that I got selected for was dropped. This I came to know after keep on bugging HR for 2 weeks after my interview.

Seeing my interest in that particular company, they asked me to attend another interview for another project on (Aug 02).

Somehow, I am glad that my interest is recognized, and I did attend the interview. This time they asked me to take up only one round of technical interview.

Even that went well, and I got a status that I am selected on the same day. Even I asked HR whether I will be getting an offer letter this time or will it get delayed.

Another HR said it won't take much time since it's already an approved project so it won't get delayed to release the offer letter; you may expect a call from us on Monday (Aug 04), but I didn't get any call from them so I called him and requested the status.

He said due to client approval, it's getting late to release the offer letter, you might get the status within Friday (Aug 08) or next Monday (Aug 11).

I again asked whether I am selected or not; he confirmed that I am selected for this project, we will intimate you about the status.

Now, what is all bugging me is, will HR conduct an interview without approval from the client for the respective project? Is it possible to cancel me at this stage?

What kind of approval do they need from the client? Without salary negotiation with me, can the client approve my selection (salary negotiation went for the first project so HR said we will proceed with your first proposal)? Could you please explain what the signs to be?

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

In some cases, approval is a mere formality. There have been instances where my candidates have received offer letters after a week from announcing selection. It was not even an IT or technical job, and there was no client involved. The reason was that the higher management was not available for a week, and a formal approval had to be obtained before issuing the offer.

In your case, as the HR is so certain, it is just a matter of time. Be hopeful.
