I joined a Singapore-based company on November 7th, 2013. I received my salary on the 10th of December. My actual salary is $21,000 per month. They calculated my salary based on 30 days in a month, making the per-day rate $700.

My number of working days is 19 days (excluding Sundays and 1.5 days of leave) minus $1000 for LIC and Medical. Therefore, they paid me 19 * $700 = $13,300.

I have a question regarding the calculation of the per-day salary. They included Sundays in the calculation, but when it came to my actual salary, they deducted Sundays. When I inquired about the reason, they mentioned that this is company policy. Is this policy correct? Help me, guys. Thanks in advance.

Neither this is the practice nor the policy.

The rule is that if the employer opts for the total days of a month to calculate the per day salary, weekly holidays will automatically be counted as the number of working days. If the employer opts for excluding the holiday to calculate the per day salary, then the actual number of working days will be calculated.

i.e.

Case 1: Monthly Salary / month days X actual working days + weekly off

Case 2: Monthly Salary / 26 or 27 X actual working days

You just ask them to work out your per day wage. If they calculated based on the month days, then you refer them that each employee is entitled to 1 day paid weekly off on each 6 days. If they calculate by excluding the weekly off, then your purpose will be automatically solved.

Manjusha, you may ask them to share the company policy with you. Check with some lawyer about the laws of Singapore. as per my knowledge Singapore is always looks for profit n profit
