Dear Sir/Ma'am,
Please guide me on how to obtain our Pehchan card or biometric card. What is the procedure for claiming ESI benefits? Whom should I ask, where should I go, and which documents are required for the same?

Sir,
It is for your principal employer (if the unit in which you are working is covered/coverable under the Employees' State Insurance Act, 1948, and rules/regulations framed thereunder) to complete your registration under the said Act. It is compulsory if you are coverable, i.e., receiving wages up to the coverable limit.
If your employer is deducting ESI contributions from your wages, then ask your employer or an authorized officer of your establishment, i.e., HR/Time Office Incharge, about your Identity Card (Pehchan Card) under the said Act. Once you have an Identity Card under the ESI Act and are eligible for benefits under the said Act, it is your legal right to avail benefits as and when such eventuality and need arises.
It would be best if you downloaded necessary literature/rules/regulations, etc., from the website of ESIC, or you can also seek guidance by visiting the nearest Branch Office of ESIC.

Sir, I have a temporary identity certificate signed and stamped by my employer. So, based on that certificate, am I eligible to get medical benefits for my family members as well? Also, for the permanent card, what steps do I have to follow?

Sir,
The Temporary Identity Certificate (TIC) is valid only for a few days, perhaps for 90 days. It would be better if you inquired about the status of your and your family's Permanent Identity Cards either from your employer or from the appropriate Branch Office of ESIC.

Hi,
Please read your TIC carefully, and you will find details regarding the address and the period during which you and your family members should go to get your photo taken (usually done at the dispensary where you are entitled to receive medical treatment). Subsequently, ESIC authorities will issue Biometric Cards (two Nos.). Until you receive the Biometric cards, you can avail benefits based on the IP No., TIC, or Form No. 37.
Thanks,
