I have completed my BSc in IT, GNIIT in Software Engineering, and a part-time MCA. I have 2 years and 4 months of work experience at Larsen and Toubro Infotech as a Software Developer, primarily working with Java Technologies. Currently, I am pursuing a full-time MBA from a college affiliated with Mumbai University. I am torn between marketing and operations but wish to continue in the IT industry. Which specialization would best help me achieve this goal, and why?

Please note that my college does not offer an MBA in Systems/IT.

Deciding on Your MBA Specialization

Jump in, do your first year, finish all core courses, get more visibility into what marketing, finance, and strategy entail, and then decide. Why make a decision based on assumptions when you can have better information in a few months?

You have not provided any information about your interests and what you envision doing in 10 years' time. Marketing and Operations are two distinct fields. Marketing involves interacting with customers/clients external to an organization, while operations entail managing individuals within an organization. Operations may require hands-on involvement, such as in R&D, or overseeing tasks through others as you progress up the career ladder.
