Hi, I have made an investment in my PPF account on the last day of the fiscal year, i.e., 31st March 2013. As a result, I was not able to show the same during the declaration filed in the month of February to the company I work with. So, the Form 16 that I have received does not reflect my contribution to the PPF account.

Now the issue is how do I show my proof of this investment during ITR filing? I didn't find any place where I can upload the scanned page of the PPF passbook.

Second Issue: I have also made a donation under 80G. Though during e-filing of ITR a different segment asks to input all the details, again I didn't find any place to upload the receipt image.

Please advise.

Thanks,
Shom

Hi,

You do not need to attach any scanned copies of the documents along with your IT Return when filing it online or submitting it to the department.

For PPF: You need to declare that amount under section 80C and claim the deduction in your IT Return.

For Donations: Similarly to PPF, you need to input the details of the donation made, including the amount, date, and PAN number of the recipient of the donation.

In e-filing, there is no need to provide scanned copies of the savings you have made. If the Income Tax authorities decide to verify your returns, they will send a notice, and then you can prove your savings and the claim you have made for them.

You don't need to worry. If any deductions were left out while giving a declaration to your employer, you can claim them in your Income Tax Return (ITR). Any income and deductions that were not considered in the declaration must be included when filing your ITR. Even tax-free income must be mentioned in your ITR for the current year.

If needed, you can seek advice or consultation from a Chartered Accountant (CA) or tax consultant nearby.

The proofs of your F-16, investments (e.g., PF), donations, etc., are to be sent along with the ITR to be submitted to the IT Dept, CPC, PB No - 1, Electronic City PO, Bangalore-560100 through ordinary post within 120 days of e-filing.

While the TDS will be reconciled with the TRACES using the F-16s, the proofs of investments/donations will be reconciled between the exemptions sought under Sec-80C/80G and the proofs furnished.
