Dear Folks,

We are a small company with high morale and integrity. Working hours are from 6:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m (IST). Most of the employees are facing serious problems such as getting sick, and every day they are reporting issues like headaches, stomach pain, and other health problems. As human beings, we understand their problems, but as a company, we have the responsibility to find a remedy for it. After much consideration, we want to introduce mentoring, motivation, and guidance programs to all employees.

So, can you please suggest good doctors/yoga gurus/spiritual gurus who can convey our mission with their thoughts and experience? Presently, we need a doctor who is from Hyderabad (General Physician) to deliver health tips... "WE BELIEVE HEALTH IS WEALTH."

For your reference: "We have nice office premises, a hygienic environment, pure drinking water facility, and everything needed for a healthy environment."

Your immediate response is highly appreciated.

The idea of having a good medical person is nice. However, while the treatment is necessary for the sick, in itself, it is not enough if too many personnel are getting sick and one has to find the reason behind it.

IST 6.30 pm to 2.30 am is confusing to me. What time of the day are they working? I suppose it would be daytime...

What type of industry is it? Are there unrealistic targets? Is work pressure the reason? Are the employees capable of handling the work as well as the pressures? Is job-related training incorporated as an activity?

Maybe answers to these questions can lead to or at least take you nearer to the solution.

IST 6.30pm to 2.30 am is confusing to me. What time of the day are they working? I suppose it would be daytime. IST means Indian Standard Time (only night shift), from evening 6.30 p.m to morning 2.30 a.m.

What type of industry is it? (Service)

Are there unrealistic targets? (All are achievable)

Is work pressure the reason? (We work only 8 hours a day, including lunch and other breaks)

Are the employees capable of handling the work as well as the pressures? (Yes)

Is job-related training incorporated as an activity? (We are implementing various training modules)

If you have any training modules, please share; it would be helpful for us. Maybe the answers to these questions can lead to, or at least take you closer to, the solution.

I am an Occupational Health Physician and Consultant, and you mentioned that your company is small with single-shift working hours. To understand your personnel reporting with sickness, it needs to be studied in detail as the reasons could be single or many.

Thank you, Mr. Murali.

With a clean setting, good ambiance, delicious food, and competent staff without undue pressures, it is a well-established setup with very little to criticize.

The working hours (8 hrs) are also acceptable. With such good practices being followed, I believe you should provide a way for employees to unwind at home, especially if they are unable to go to bed before 3.30 am.

This situation presents only one potential drawback: the lack of good night's sleep month after month. It wouldn't be surprising if you notice them becoming irritable, restless, and even confused — clear signs of sleep deprivation.

While having a doctor address their health issues is a positive step to identify potential reasons, I believe they also need to adapt to the new sleep pattern. Given the nature of a single shift, there is little that can be done about it.

Your suggestion of involving a Yoga Guru is excellent. I think Shavasana and meditation could help alleviate problems caused by sleep deprivation to some extent by inducing relaxation.

If you can find someone to assist with Shavasana & Meditation in Hyderabad, that would be beneficial. If not, I wonder if I could help you with Shavasana & Meditation as I have experience as a teacher and practitioner of these practices and can provide audio guidance.
