Hi
A good insight into how to enhance one's vocabulary. The analogy of building one's muscles in a systematic way, emphasizes the slow and steady progress that one has to make in order to achieve proficiency in the language.
In addition to the reading list suggestions given in the link, you are welcome to also go through the contents of the following Motivational and Inspirational blogs to get a feel of how a good vocabulary enhances the quality and effectiveness of the communication.

Nice readings suggested ACT.
What's very important is to locate your interest in terms of reading and the appropriate difficulty level - if you choose something very difficult, you will get frustrated soon and if you choose something too easy, you'll lose interest.
And of course, the muscle analogy - you can't build good vocabulary in a day and neither can you do it without regular effort.

Thankyou for your response . Wish to share a practise that helps me speak better. I suffer from the negative pattern of using 'broken and incomplete sentences'.
Its a real challenge, as most of the time I too busy thinking, even to notice that, leaving a very bad impression on the ones, who are listening to me.
There must be many more ways, but here's the one that helps me deal with this.
I read aloud articles and reports , so that I can hear my self speak. This takes a lot of time, but the practise of waiting to read a complete sentence, eventually corrects the error for me.
Being trite can often be assumed as being snobbish . Hence sharing a message with a complete sentence, is truly essential.
Looking forward to hear from you, on correcting such negative patterns. Thanks in advance :)

You've touched upon 3 things:
a) Broken and incomplete sentences:
Now, that's not always a negative. Infact, one of the major differences between written and spoken communication is acceptability of half sentences in spoken communication especially in casual, semi-formal or peer to peer communication. For example, look at the following exchanges:
Exchange 1:
Director: Why have we missed the project deadline?
Manager: "The HR policies! We spent so much time implementing them that we didn't have enough time for the project"
Exchange 2:
Director: Why have we missed the project deadline?
Manager: "We have missed the project deadline due to the HR policies! We spent so much time implementing them that we didn't have enough time for the project"
Exchange 1 is more natural and conveys the message better precisely due to the incomplete sentence.
Of course, you wouldn't want to use incomplete sentences in mails and documents. While speaking, you might want to be a little cautious while using half sentences with the boss. Apart from that, I think it only signifies your higher comfort level with the language and fluency. Yes, it's actually an asset.
b) Reading aloud
It can be pretty useful because hearing yourself gives you a feel of how you sound and also exposes many of your mistakes.
Another aspect is that reading aloud slows you down and gives the chance to your mind to get distracted. So, a happy medium is to read 1 or 2 pages aloud and if you need to do more reading, do it silently.
c) Being brief can be taken for being arrogant
Very good point. Giving long explanations may sound more polite.
However, in business, you are expected to be economical with words - sharp and to the point. Being pithy signifies confidence and if that is matched by your work, you are on a royal road to power and super stardom in your company.
Of course, if every time someone asks you a question, you utter only single word answers - you'd sound like a rock and roll crazy teenager.
I think the best strategy is to see the kind of impact you are having on people. Half sentences as such are not bad, infact, good if you are not overdoing it. See how people react and see if you reply 100% of the times in half sentences or just 20-30%. Therein lies your answer.

In addition to the resourceful gleanings from the various contributing members, may I add the following?
Any language including our mother tongue is just a vehicle of our expression. It is a verbal relationship. But unfortunately, we often forget, of course in our excess of enthusiasm, that the expressed is more important than the expression itself. Here I would like to quote the greatest Tamil Poet of 20th century Mahakavi Bharathi--- " If there be the luminous light of Truth in the mind, words would be luminous too"( may be a loose translation) To me what n how we form our thinking process n how effectively we are able to relate our thoughts to others by empathizing is more important..Every language has its own beauty.Hence languages are incomparable. If the language of our career communication is not our mother tongue, better let us first cultivate the habit of start thinking in that particular language. Mastery will be the eventual by-product!
