Hi Avinash,

If you are not using the oil again for the process, please check with your respective state PCB for the procedure. Since it is considered hazardous waste, you should obtain a hazardous waste consent order to store it.

Dear Avinash,

As advised by Mr. Eswar K, you must obtain permission from the PCB for storing or disposing of the used oil, grease. At the PCB office, they will guide you on how to dispose of and whom to contact for disposing of the spray paint containers, used oil, grease, food waste, and other materials that need to be disposed of by you.

Please follow the guidelines provided by the PCB for proper disposal procedures.

Thank you.

Dear Avinash,

Used oil and grease are defined under Hazardous Waste Management and Handling rules as "Hazardous Wastes." This should appear in your consent to operate. You should apply for it. You should store them in a closed shed.

After these are generated, you should dispose of the items to state pollution control board approved recyclers. If the quality is beyond recycling, then it should be disposed of at Common Hazardous Waste Treatment Storage and Disposal sites (CHWTSDF). This must be disposed of within 90 days from the date of generation.

There is a provision that says you can send the waste to a collection center, which is available at the headquarters. The authorized vendor as well as the company should have PCB certification. The application can be obtained from PCB.

Dear Avinash,

First of all, you have to identify the diesel storage area. The area should be covered, locked, and key, and posted with items such as MSDS and a highly flammable signboard. Additionally, an eye washer should be present in the storage area. The diesel storage flooring should be made of RCC with one layer of sand below the container. There should be a separate area designated for waste storage, which should also be locked. The company will need to contract with an authorized waste disposal or recycling company, which will charge for their services. If you wish to store diesel in a tank, you must obtain permission from the Indian Oil Corporation in Mumbai. Permission from the PCB is not required.

If you have any queries, feel free to contact me.

Hi,

As stated above, you need to obtain permission for the storage, transfer, and disposal of used oil from the Hazardous Waste wing of the local Pollution Control Board. Used oil should be stored in a sealed drum placed on an impervious floor under a covered shed. Usually, used oil is sent to the refinery for recycling purposes, but the agency must be authorized by the PCB. No hazardous waste can be stored for more than 90 days.

Mukesh

Dear All,

Thank you for your valuable reply. For your information, I have valid consent to operate for the storage and disposal of hazardous waste.

My question is, how can we store oil tanks and grease tanks in the storage area? Is there any specific arrangement for it? Please provide details of the specific arrangement or site-specific requirements. We have the legal aspects covered.

Thank you.

Dear Avinash,

You are requested to ensure the following:

1. The stored drums should not leak to avoid soil pollution.
2. The rainwater should not get contaminated.
3. Check if the Petroleum Act is applicable for the stored quantity.
4. Ensure the availability of proper firefighting equipment. (Foam type preferred)

Thanks & Regards,
Sudhir
