I absolutely agree with your last line: '...do R&D first, and then ask for suggestions and advice...'.
Like the saying goes: "God helps those who help themselves".
But I think our citeHR members are much more considerate than HIM [:-)] - many members answer just about any query by new members, without any attempt to alert/guide them. I think some sort of a checking mechanism for new members while they post their threads needs to be put into place - just a thought.
