I think you are using MS Office 2007 and this sheet is made on a lower version when you open this sheet excel will give a warning msg. Now click yes and sheet will open and now again save it in upper version i.e 2007.

I cannot open the workbook properly. All I am getting is a number of characters but not a proper worksheet . I am using Office 2003. What version is this xls using?

Dear i am again uploading this files and now it is in .xlsx extension (Office 2007) but you are using office 2003 so you have to install a utility, after installing this utility or patch one can open office 2007 files in office 2003.
Just give a search in google "how to open office 2007 file in office 2003" and click on the first link which of Microsoft. I am unable to paste link here.

No doubt , it is good effect, why not you add wage/salary calculation in other sheet please update and attach is more useful to all
and you can add total no. of days along with leave which is called as payable days in the month
