Hi,
Appointment letter has to be issued the day the person joins. It might get delayed due to slow functioning of the process but have to be released within a month as the salary of the person cannot be released till he is on the rolls of the organization. The person is considered on the rolls only when there is a valid signed proof of he/she being appointed. The valid proof is the appointment letter / the employment contract.
Confirmation letter has to be issue the day when the employee gets confirmed. This might be before the probation period gets over, the day it gets over or post the due date. Depends on how the organization decides to confirm the employee.
Please note that timely release of letters builds a goodwill in the eyes of the employee and delay of the same results a bad taste...
Hope this helps! :)

1 An Offer letter is issued after selection of a candidate in an interview. This will mention the designation, salary, and other benefits applicable, last date for reporting to duty among other terms & conditions.
2. An Apptt.letter is given just before joining or immediately after joining comprising the date of joining, posting and duties & responsibilites plus other terms & conditions.
Many employers straight away issue apptt.letter mentioning the last date for joining. Its all how the practice in their office.
3. A confirmation letter is normally issued after satisfactory completion of the 'Probationary period'. Many co. don't have such practice instead they put thro' an increment after completion of the probation.
4. Appraisal need not be in letter format. Its a report card normally first filled up by the employee concerned followed by remarks by the Reporting Officer, HOD and forwarded to the HR.

Hi,
i am agreed on above blog but i want to add one point here that there is a lot of place in world where an employee not think on confirmation because they know that we will be confirm and as per the confirmation they will get the salary.
Above information is as per my practical experience.
