My organization is insisting that I follow the dress code even when I come in for night shifts. I work as an Oracle DBA. As per our dress code, I have to wear a tie and formal attire even when I'm coming to the office for a night shift. If I don't comply, the office security notes down my employee ID and sends the details to HR to deduct $500 from my salary. Do I really need to work for this organization and accept such a ridiculous policy? In fact, this is a multinational corporation based in Hyderabad. Please let me know the solution to address this issue.

Hi Krishna, the choice is yours, whether to work for the company or not.

Regarding the Dress Code:

If every employee working the night shift is expected to follow this dress code and all of you find it inconvenient, the best way is to write a grievance letter signed by all employees working the night shift. Submit the original to the Head of HR and a copy to the Management representative. Request a meeting regarding this, as this is a straightforward issue that can be resolved quickly.

The management will certainly consider the employees' request and will take the necessary action.

Please understand that even if it is a night shift, those are working hours, and you are supposed to be dressed in formals when you are at work, no matter the time or shift. I suggest you follow the rules; formal dressing also helps in creating a professional working environment.
