I resigned from the services of the company after serving almost 20 years at a pharmaceutical company as a sales manager. I had given one month's notice before my resignation. They only paid me the basic salary for this notice period and nothing else. I have requested the entire amount that I would have received as a regular employee for this notice period. I would like to understand the rules and regulations regarding this matter.

Thank you.

Dear Mr. Sahay,

If you have worked during the notice period, you are eligible for the full salary. However, in case you have given a 30-day notice and not worked, then I feel your company is correct. This is because the appointment letter usually states either one month's notice or one month's basic pay.

If you had served during the N. Period, you are eligible for the entire gross pay that you were receiving before resigning. Please speak with those people who unilaterally decided to convert your gross pay into basic salary, which is unjustified.
