I have a Team Lead (10 yrs exp) who is the shortest in the team. He believes that no one in the team accepts him as leader, every time his proposal of suggestions not getting received by the team. He is a very good employee and dedicated towards his job . Does Height matters in Work Place/Society/Community?
Please advise

Nice topic. Something different. From what I have seen, people with good height are easier to accept as leaders. I have personally seen a lot of times, Very Senior Level Managers would be tall, compared to the average employee height. People with less height can also become leaders and be accepted by the group, provided they display their competence. Then it becomes easy.

Thanks Balaji. What would you suggest to handle such a situation where I believe that my employee is hard working and dedicated with Get-It Done attitude?
Is his Inferiority Complex kills his enthusiasm?

Dear Soujesh,

The issue here is not of height of a person but ability to execute certain powers at hand. The second thing is about being assertive. Please remember our former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri was short. However, he was famous for his firm nature.

May be that your friend has inferiority complex because of his height. In regular work set-up what matters is not height but the management style. A leader has to execute various powers viz. reward power, coercive power, legitimate power, referent power, expert power. It appears that your friend is not using these power as the situation demands.

You can refer the following links to know more about these powers:

Height does not matter at all.. its all your confidence matters! I know a person who has squint eye, he is working as a HR Manager.......imagine if he sees someone the other person will think that he is seeing someone else. Never bother about others......be confident........ and just think " I CAN"

Dear All
This topic as such is not of great HR importance, but it is of importance from a psychological point of view.
Have you heard about following leaders
Francisco Franco
Emperor Hirohito
Stalin
Kim Jongil
Yasser Arafat
Gloria M A

Napoleon Bonaparte
Hope this answers your query

Well Mr Octavious has made the message pretty clear. We all are different and yet so same, god has given us this body to respect it and not to get demoralized by the height or other personalty traits, we should be thank full for being given this chance to experience life in all its shapes and sizes and the only thing that matters is the Heart and not Height so you can suggest your team lead to use the leaders skills which Mr Dinesh Divakar has mentioned above, this way he will fill fulfilled with himself.
