First of all thanks for raising this question to the forum... I was also not aware about the answer... Then I try to find out the answer and got the following...
The Bow Shackle has a larger inner working radius than a D Shackle, offering more space for a strap or rope eye and the ability to achieve greater angles when recovering in difficult situations...

From the link and the pictures the difference is very clear... But where one must use D Shackle and Bow Shackle is not clear... As the construction of both these are different must be having different upurpose... Both using for rigging activities...

Instead of having an engineering background you search it out on web to find out the difference between Bow Shackle and D Shackle... But what I did is, I had a talk with few of my collegues to find out the exact answer of the query put by the thread starter... As get different answer from different peoples I thought of sharing my concern of not knowing the answer openly with the forum to learn the things... I not spend much time on goggle to search it out... Although the answer to the query may be simple, I am sure most of the people may not knowing the same...
However the wikipedia link gives an idea about both the shackles...
