Dear Arika,
For a beginner in HR, one should initially do whatever task is assigned to them promptly. One should be enthusiastic and vigilant. To be successful, the HR person needs to be polite and must have patience to listen to the employees' grievances. Also, enthusiasm for learning new tasks should be displayed in the workplace. All these qualities would ultimately lead to success.

Hi, I am a commerce graduate working in a construction company with 5 years and 6 months of experience in the HR and Admin department. From the beginning of my career, I worked as a Senior Assistant in the P & A department, handling Statutory compliance, salary processing, labor issues, and employee grievances, among other responsibilities.
In 2010, I changed my job and joined another construction company in an administrative role. I am concerned about my career due to the change in my job profile. I am attempting to transition into the HR department but have not yet found an opportunity.
I have completed my PGDBA-HR from SCDL, Pune. Could you please suggest what I should do in this situation? I am also interested in pursuing any other course that could help advance my career in the HR department.
I appreciate your suggestions. Please assist me.

Hi Arika,
First, I want to say that you must go to the old post here on Cite for your answer as we have already discussed the same topic several times and have numerous posts by the members and seniors. I'm sure that by doing this, you will learn many things.
Secondly, for a beginner, as Tanu said, a person should be polite, quick to learn, energetic, vigilant, and need to perform their tasks sincerely as assigned by the seniors.
Before going further, I would like to emphasize that a beginner must understand the need of HR and the role of HR people in an organization because until then there is no need to discuss how to succeed in the HR profession.
What is HR and the need of HR for an organization?
How to establish HR in an organization? (Which is basically connected to the Need of HRM?)
What are the major works and responsibilities of an HR personnel or managers?
These are some basic questions that need to be answered to understand this profession. Some people used to ask what the need of HRM is in an organization and what HR Managers and other people are contributing towards the attainment of organizational objectives and goals.
There are numerous people there, and I have discussed the same and emphasized the value of Human Resource Management. I would like you all to go to the links below to understand all these things, and I'm sure you'll find the answers you are looking for.
In my post/reply on this thread https://www.citehr.com/285974-career...ml#post1290276 and https://www.citehr.com/332979-hr-man...ste-money.html, I tried describing the importance of HRM with "MY 7 STARS OF HR".

Dear Arika,
You need not make any complex exercises to become a successful HR professional. It is very simple. You can learn while accomplishing your routine job within the working hours of your office.
Whatever job is assigned to you, while putting that to your boss, make it a habit to know the background of that specific job, how and what had already been done in similar jobs by your predecessor in the file, and think about how you could have done it better.
Discuss your viewpoints with your superior, have their views, and present the case expressing your suggestions in a convincing manner where a consensus is reached between you and your superior. However, be vigilant if you feel your superior is misleading you or asking you to base decisions on biased judgment. In situations where you differ entirely with your superior's views, simply submit the case without your suggestions and seek the decision of the competent authority on the matter.
After a decision is made on the concerned matter, reflect on the outcome and consider why it was either right or wrong. You need not worry about a wrong decision made by the decision-maker, but if you disagree with the opinion on that decision, try to discuss the pros and cons of the decision in a humble manner with your superiors. If your superior or boss agrees with your viewpoints, they may ask you to resubmit the case with your opinion for review. However, if they don't agree, do not insist, as you have already fulfilled your duty well.
This practical approach will help you learn your job effectively instead of relying solely on hypothetical instructions received without any documentation or context. By following this method, not only will you fulfill your office responsibilities, but you will also enhance your knowledge and experience.

Thank you, Mr. Anil Arora,
I have gone through both of your articles: "Careers in HR" and "HR Manager are a waste of money."
I understand that HR has a very wide and crucial role to play in any organization. To perform this role successfully, as an HR professional, we should be clear about our responsibilities within the company. As personal traits, we should be active, sociable, honest, alert, sincere, and have a practical approach towards our work. Additionally, we should possess sound technical knowledge on all seven pillars of HR, including Staffing, Performance Appraisals, Compensation and Benefits, Training and Development, Employee and Labor Relations, Safety and Health, and Human Resource Research, to effectively implement them in our organization.
