My father is in service in Indian Railway(South Eastern Division-Howrah Station) for more than 20 yrs. Now he is 52yr old. On 17th Apr,2011 he was feeling uneasy and returned home from the office. Suddenly started severe pain in lower abdomen portion, we have to admit him in local State General Hospital. 17th April was Sunday, so there was one doctor present that day. His(doctor) first aid treatment has gone in vain. Then dr referred him and we moved in private nursing home where dr detected that my father has a stone in Ureter. They have decided to do micro surgery to remove that stone. Eventually my father is out of danger now. But we have paid a lump sum amount of Rs.35000.00 to the nursing home. Being a middle class family that amount is lump sum to us. We have no mediclaim.
-my question is: Whether we get that amount from the Indian Railway?
Please help me out. ASAP.

Hello papan.subhajit,
Have you checked with the concerned Railways authorities? They will be the best people to confirm, either way. Or is it that you did so & they told you that he is NOT eligible?
To the extent I know of Railway rules, you should have admitted him in the Local Railway Hospital--Howrah should be having one. If the nearest Railway Hospital is very far away, then the local Govt/ESI General Hospital should be OK. I think they also have some list of Private hospitals in every state/city that can admit their staff in emergencies.
Also, I don't think Railways have any limits for medical expenses--as long as the documentation is in place [bills, prescriptions, reports, etc]. Just check with the concerned Railways people & you should have the answer.
