Dear senior,

I'm interested in investing in the stock market, but I don't have a basic idea of how to go about it or where to seek help. Though I lack knowledge in this area, I am keen on exploring investment opportunities in the stock market. Could you please suggest what I should do?

Thanks and regards,
Prem

You are interested in the stock market. Then, go to any broker registered by SEBI and open a Demat account with their firm. After that, start trading. First, choose a good script and decide whether to buy or sell based on its fundamentals and technical analysis.

Hello Prem,

First, begin to read newspapers like Economic Times for some time so that you get a feel of the market. Once you begin to gain some knowledge as well as confidence, you can then approach brokers or one of the many portals to actually invest. If you start investing just by following someone else's advice, don't blame them when things go wrong, as ups and downs are normal in the stock market.

Hi,

For those interested in learning about stock markets (or any other investments), try Investopedia.com. You can find a comprehensive introduction/tutorial to various investments on this site. Additionally, read books like "The Intelligent Investor," "The Warren Buffett Way," and "Value Investing," among others.

Fundamentally, understand the difference between trading and investing. Many people have lost their shirts thinking that trading is a quick way to make big money.

Above all, remember: "In the stock market, bulls make money, bears make money, and pigs get slaughtered" - a quote from Gecko in the movie "Wall Street."

All the best.

Thanks,
Murali

If you are going to share the market for the first time, do go through Mutual Fund. If you can spend some hours daily studying and analyzing the market, keeping track of it yourself, then you may slowly upgrade your money through your own firsthand knowledge that you will develop. Alternatively, you can simply go through the Mutual Fund route if you want others to take care of your money.

Thank you.
