hai..i am a new member here, i am a msw(hr) student.
recently we had a discussion in class about outsourcing of HR functions, ppl came up with different views. after the discussion, i still felt that even though this method is efficient and less time consuming for the HR, is it really a good practise? the functions like wage and salary admin, training, recruitment etc the jobs of HR, if they are outsourced, then doesn't it result in downsizing of the HR dept in the organisation.
this is just some things i wondered about.
i would appreciate it if you could give me ur perspective:)

Greetings,
I see your concern in the downsizing of the HR department. But differ with you, as HR is fundamentally the Think Tank of the organization. Hence this segregation of repetitive tasks would help HR to focus more on development. I refer to an article written ' which jobs risk outsourcing’. It stands true for every job irrespective of functions. If a role doesn’t required to be delivered right from the place of action and can be easily trained, it will always get outsourced .This had been happening across nations , verticals and functions.
Another Look at Offshoring: Which Jobs Are at Risk and Why? - Harvard Business Review
This would mean that we would have more verticals within HR. Even now , the HR generalist anyhow matures into HR Specialist. Hence as the HR Outsourcing stabilise, it would offer more opportunities to the professionals to choose within the verticals in HR.
Hope this answer's your question. Do revert if you wish to know any further.

Hi,
Greetings of the day!
As you mentioned, the HR department will be downsized if they are outsourced. However, nowadays, outsourcing has become one of the major trends. The main reason for outsourcing is to reduce the burden. Mostly, small business owners outsource compared to large businesses like MNCs. The reason is that large companies have a separate HR department, which is not the case for small businesses. Most small business owners do not have an HR department and, therefore, opt to outsource.
The attachment highlights the reasons why businesses are turning to outsourcing these days.
