Dear All,
The Payment of Gratuity (Amendment) Bill, 2010 that has been introduced in the Lok Sabha.
The Payment of Gratuity Act 1972 provides for the payment of gratuity to employees engaged in industries including mines, oilfields, plantations, shops, factories, amongst others. This Amendment Bill proposed to raises the ceiling of gratuity to be paid from the present level of Rs. 3.5 lakh to Rs. 10 lakh.

It is said that the increase of Grat.from 3.50 to 10L means that there is no Income Tax for the amount received upto a million!

Plz find attached herewith the copy of notification dated 31.12.2009 by virtue of which teachers have also become eligible to receive gratuity amount under the Payment of Gratuity Act, 1972.

Dear All,
We recently had one employee retired from the services of the company and he has completed 30 yeears of service in the company.
With regards to his gratuity the full basic & DA was taken into consideration & accordingly calculated, but at the time of payment our corporate office has deducted 10000/- on Rs.6.29 laksh towards tax, but the employee is disputing on the same stating that Gratuity is exempted from tax upto Rs,10,00000/- please throw light on the same..

Dear Praveen,
We are to abide by law relating to Payment of Gratuity & hence we are not in a position to opt less amount against prescribed maximum limit of Rs. 10 Lacs.

This is very informative information. Now gratuity amended in 3.5 to 10 lakh means don to pay any income tax till 10 lakh.. however it is pending in State level...... So keep it mind.....
