Hi
Most professional organizations in India like HUL, ITC and the Tata Group have a very good mentoring program to ensure that there is no dearth of leadership talent. The problem is with the larger family owned concerns where owners find it hard to accept that they need to groom the next generation.
The real problem in mentoring is identifying the right mentor and to get that mentor to learn a few things about mentoring. The next is to define the scope of mentoring and to zoom in on the right people to become the mentees. Retaining the talent that is mentored is also a challenge; for they need to be given sufficient growth and challenging assignments too.
Trust I have given you a few pointers. For more details maybe you can look up sites like BNET Today | Management, Strategy, Work Life Skills & Advice for Professionals too.
Regards
