Dear Friends,

As the market and industry have started showing signs of recovery with the jobs opening up in almost all sectors, old problem of talent exodus is bound to come back to haunt the organizations once again. But this time attrition may appear to be different from the last one. Reason being both organizations and employees have seen each other’s pattern of behaviour during slowdown period.

Organizations that sowed the wind with harsh measures such as drastic pay cuts and terminations should now be prepared to reap a whirlwind in the form of major difficulties in attracting the performers and retaining the present one. Employee turnover has started picking up in IT / ITes sector with others to follow. How organizations treated their employees during hard times will be key determinant of attrition level and the fabric of employer-employee relationship. This time attrition will not be only for quick growth and money.

Business Manager - HR Magazine talked to many employees in different sectors on this issue and the result of this pulse servey is quite enlightening. Maximum employees have indicated that they will prefer the organization who has transparent HR policies and culture with caring attitude and high tolerance level with good financial health, no matter if compensation package is less if an opportunity comes across. Certainly big brand and MNC will no more be an only attraction.

With the economy rebounding, the organizations that have not invested intelligently in their people and adopted knee-jerk reactions during slow down could face high level of attrition now. Cover Feature of BM is on this topic with a note of caution for HR fraternity to pull up their socks to handle the issue as it is almost on plate.
