Mahesh,
In your first post in this thread you used the words "Hope this would be of little use...". I think what you wanted to convey was " Hope this would be of SOME use...". Little use means NO use at all.
As far as IM is concerned, all of us should use the techniques only if we have substance in us. Otherwise people will see through us in the long run. Good work always gets recognised but sometimes it may take time. IM only lets you speed up that process of getting that recognition faster .

Hi,
Sorry to disappoint you there however, talking of "Impression Management"..... I couldn't agree with it.....
A) Its easier to create a great impression, but its difficult to live it all along
Do not set unrealistic expectations
B) Its better to be Assertive than being Deceptive
You may be successful with your dealings ... where you just want to create a Great First Impression [ref: MAGIC, Making A Great Impression on your Customer]
however. thats for Sales guys .....
To be "Effective" you need to be Dynamic & Honest and set realistic expectations during all your interactions ...be it the first or the last
The point is, Do you want to be Successful or Effective
Success is Just a milestone (Short-term)
to be Effective is amalgamation of all actions included and its impact on peoples perception about you (Long-term)
So you have a choice ........

Dear Mahesh,
Your PPT on IM was thoughtful and practical, especially for persons who are talented but do no know how to show it. This presentation will be of great help for beginners; also it will be a refresher for thorough professionals. Keep up the good work...
In your post you have mentioned 'of little use' which means 'of no use'.
