hi friends....
ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS
Even when we don’t talk, we unconsciously let our mood, thoughts, attitude and emotions out…….
Body Language is the unspoken communication that goes on in every Face-to-Face encounter with another human being. It tells you others’ true feelings towards you and how well your words are being received.
Research tells us at least 85% of all meaningful communication is nonverbal, unspoken. You do read one’s body language louder than the words that come out of one’s mouth.
If you DO this…it means this…
• Yawning “I am feeling terribly bored”
• Scratching the head “I am tired if this”
• Biting the lower lip “I don’t know; I’m not confident about this
• Tapping the foot “I want to get on the next thing; I’m bored
• Fidgeting in a chair “I’m feeling uncomfortable”
The most expressive parts of the body:
EYES
The eyes are a window to the soul
• THE DIRECT LOOK
• THE SIDELONG GLANCE
• THE CONCENTRATED GAZE
• THE BLANK STARE
• BLINKING
WHILE SPEAKING:
• Maintain eye contact.
If you have trouble looking at someone in the eye, simply focus on something in his or her face.
Don’t look at bad listeners who may distract you.
FACE.
Face is a book where men may read strange matters.
• Most expressive part of the body
• Highly flexible
Spontaneous reactions
Just through our facial expressions we can express our:
• Respect for others
• Attitude
• Feelings
• Overall Personality
HANDS.
Limp hands do no magic
• LIMP HANDS
• RELAXED HANDS
• RESTLESS HANDS
• CLENCHED HANDS
FINGERS
• Pointing the index finger
• Steeple
• Cracking of knuckles
ARMS-
• CROSSED OR FOLDED ARMS
• ARMS BEHIND THE BACK
WHAT DO THESE GESTURES MEAN?
• Mouth covering
• Putting objects in the mouth
• Scratching the neck
• Touching the nose
• Resting the cheek on the palm
• Stroking the chin
THE HANDSHAKES
• Gesture of welcome.
Ways of shaking hands-
• The palm down thrust
• The palm up position
• The dead fish handshake
• The knuckle grinder handshake
• The stiff arm handshake
• The finger-tip grab handshake
• The arm pull handshake
• The politician’s handshake
• The firm handshake
STYLES OF SITTING
• Sitting on the edge of the chair
• Leg over the arm of the chair
• Straddling the chair
• Rocking in the chair
• Fidgeting
• The Lincolnesque position
AVOID
• HUNCHING THE SHOULDERS
• SLOUCHING IN A CHAIR
• LEANING FORWARD WITH THE HEAD RESTING ON ONE HAND
• CONSTANTLY SHIFTING POSITION
• BEING STIFF WHILE WALKING
• WALKING HESITANTLY
• WALKING WITH YOUR HEAD DOWN
YOU DON’T GET A SECOND CHANCE TO MAKE THE FIRST IMPRESSION.
