Hi,

I got this material with me on solving conflicts hope it will be of help.

I have posted some PPts also on the forum related to resolving conflicts.

Just go to quick search at the left corner and type in key words and you will get a lot of examples.

How to Resolve Conflicts at Work

Friction in the workplace can be stressful and counterproductive for everyone involved. Learn to approach the person with whom you are struggling and resolve the situation.

STEP 1: Decide whether you want to confront the person who is bothering you. It is usually better to air grievances in the open than to let them fester.

STEP 2: Speak to the other person calmly, politely and rationally. Focus on the situation and facts, avoiding gossip and personal attacks.

STEP 3: Be careful not to express hostility in your posture, facial expression or tone. Be assertive without being aggressive. STEP 4: Listen to the other person carefully: What is she trying to say? Be sure you understand her position. STEP 5: Express interest in what the other person is saying. You can acknowledge her ideas without necessarily agreeing or submitting. Saying, "I understand that you feel this way.

Here's how I feel..." acknowledges both positions. STEP 6: Communicate clearly what you want, offering positive suggestions and recommendations. Be willing to be flexible. STEP 7: Speak to your supervisor if a problem with a difficult co-worker seriously threatens your work, but avoid whining. Tips & Warnings

Deal with problematic personalities by trying to understand what motivates their behavior, then tailoring your actions to work with that personality type. Once you grasp why people behave as they do, you will be able to interact with them more effectively.

For example, be firm with bullies at work ' don't allow them to pressure you into doing anything unwanted. Be forceful in your opinions, but act with a bit of caution.

Around complainers, avoid acting too sympathetic if you feel their complaints are ill-founded; instead, ask what sorts of actions they plan to take to change the situation. Squarely ask them what they want.

Cheers

Managers believe there are 2 types of conflicts.

- Functional Conflicts

- Dysfunctional Conflicts

Functional conflicts are welcomed and encouraged by the Managers and it is healthy for the organization and could achieve a positive outcome while Dysfunctional conflicts are negative and may become very unhealthy to the organization in the long run.

Managers resolve conflict in different ways so that the out come maybe as follows-

- Win/ win

- Win/ Lose

- Lose/Win

- Lose/Lose

Achieving a Win/Win situation is a healthy outcome where both parties are satisfied with what they have gained. An effective Manager should have an understanding of the situation and before thinking of resolving the conflict should look for a positive way to approach the conflict.

The Managers of today understand that every individual has something to offer to the organization. Even though some are labeled as “trouble makers” in the organization the truth is that they are not comfortable with a certain situation there in and the way they react to such situations can be controlled if the certain individual can be coached on how to handle the situation. This coaching lies with the respective Managers’ capability of understanding as well as approaching the person as well as the situation wisely.

Dear Satyam, the way you asked this question and the way people replied; it appeared as if a boss is giving a task to his subordinates. :D
You have not specified your case?
You have not mentioned the situations?
You have not mentioned the industry type or the level at which this conflict exists?
You have also not mentioned as what you have done to solve the existing conflict?
If you are looking for general Conflict Resolving Techniques...then I think any Management Book will give you the desired answer. If you are an MBA-HR, you might have read in your course as well.
So, dear do your homework....at least give the total information...so that people can help you or give their suggestion in a right manner.
"Conflicts" and "Resolving Conflicts" are big issues...people might not be able to help you in a right manner...without getting right inputs.
