Good try. However, as an HR professional, I am not convinced with it. A few things I would like to point out:

1. The presentation title.
2. The HR profession is mostly chosen by women. (This is a separate matter of debate.)
3. It could be more effective if it would have answered "how?"

But I must say, a useful piece of work.

Hi,

As you mentioned in the presentation about time management, benchmarking, and professionalism, in India, most of the companies I have seen have HR professionals from an administrative or accounting background. How can we expect them to understand strategies and benchmarking techniques? Sometimes, even our Indian HR professionals may not know how to execute the recruitment process with terms like "disciplined" as you mentioned.

I specialize in strategies (from a UK university), benchmarking techniques, performance appraisal methods, recruitment procedures (in the US and UK), and training in various departments such as IT, non-IT, and BPO.

Thank you.

No where has Priyatosh mentioned that HR is a female profession. He has just given an example that females mostly take up HR as a profession because it has less number crunching involved in it.

Priyatosh, all points are relevant. I personally think that most HR professionals lack in Point 7 - "Human Resource has to get more HUMAN."

Hello,

The post is heading in the right direction. However, No 3 seems to be out of place. The qualities required of an HR professional are being discussed. This point mentions that one should not compare performances (in an era of benchmarking). The remark about women was uncalled for and unjustified. Many men dislike numbers.

Discussions such as these are welcome as they draw attention to important matters that we, as HR professionals, need to focus on.

It's not just HRM, but the proper alignment of HR to the business today. HR is already practicing data, figures, graphs, and has positioned itself well in business planning and vision. Some facts sounded outdated to me (such as the assumption that only women prefer HR, with no data or figures included).

Today, we live in a global market. Attracting and retaining talent has become a significant challenge, especially in the IT and ITES industry. Furthermore, we discuss cost-effectiveness and look at cost-cutting measures. In such a scenario, HR as a department will not survive in any organization if it lacks the required skills. The buzzwords nowadays revolve around the sustainability of business, providing authentic leadership, and aligning with business goals. The need is for HR business partners.

Fairly good try! However, I don't think that HR job is gender-biased. Any gender with requisite competency & skills could do this job. Some people consider HR job as compliance; like, leave, compensation, admin, appraisal, statutory & legal, discipline etc., but the real challenge is understanding the nuances of the organizational goal and aligning the HR resources to it, turning the entire gamut of activities into enhancing the productivity resulting in higher profitability of the organization.

An HR person should possess the quality of understanding human nature & must empathize. He or she must be able to connect with people of the organization and try to make them passionate about the growth of the organization.

A good attempt to narrate "what is expected from a HR professional. PPT Title is not relavant. This is not a Soft-Skiil, this is the pre-requisite of a HR Professional. Shreedhar Kantharia
