A good human resources topic could be "How to manage the workforce in tough economic situations." Following are the reasons for my suggestion.
1. Typically, for a self-governed project (be it a school project or a thesis), current affairs are of utmost value. It displays true research into a variety of current situations, provides an opportunity to showcase your ability to stay in touch with real-life scenarios of the current times, and provides insights into future trends (which would help you long after your project is complete).
2. In any economic situation, a key challenge for HR is to effectively manage the company workforce to minimize attrition and maximize returns on investment in the workforce.
3. In current economic situations, it is especially important where most companies are struggling and looking for solutions to cut costs (the first line of defense is to let employees go) and yet sustain the workforce to deliver meaningful business and make profits.
In these situations, insights into effective workforce management could help accomplish exactly that. Some of the subtopics in this area could be:
1. Talent Management
2. Improving Employee Morale, Motivation, and Retention
3. Workforce Spread Analysis and Allocation
4. Compensation Analysis
5. Organizational Management and Strategic Workforce Management
