Can we relieve someone on last day of a month which happens to be an official holiday? What is the best option available? I do not want that person to bear loss of a day's salary.
Suggestions please

Hi Prashant,
If last day comes as a holiday , relieve the person on the previous day and pay the salary uptorelieved date only. or you need to relieve the person on next day of an official holiday, but in that case you need to pay one day extra salary. So the first option is only recommended .

Releiving has to be only the next day. Imagine if he had taken a leave during his notice period, wont you ask him work one more day extra and complete the notice period. Same way - he also can be releived only after the "complete" number of days mentioned in the notice period is served.
Thanks.

You may relieve the employee on the same day or the very next day indicating the last working day on the relieving letter. There is no harm but don’t relieve the person on the official holiday as nobody present on that day to relieve the employee from the duties.

Take your safe side and relieve the person happily.

Who told you reliving does necessarily means there should be someone present on that RELIVING DAY and to complete formalities necessarily on that only . My god I am just rolling on the floor laughing uncontrollable. :icon6::icon6::icon6::icon6::icon6::-P:-P:-P:-P

If the last day of relieving or first day of joining happens to be holiday, we can always add a phrase saying DOR/DOJ as being a holiday, you are relived a day eariler or requested to join a day later, however, salary for the holiday shall be paid as per the rules and regulations established by the organization.
This will keep up all dates.
All the time, I had been advocating for fixed start and end date, say, employees should join only 2 times a month or relieved only on one day/two days of a month. If some one has to be terminated immediately, company should either exercise restraint or use option of suspensding an employee.
