We decided to hire a Technical Manager. This was a critical position, and we did not want to take any chances. So we decided that money should not be a factor. We decided to give a newspaper advertisement, publish the jobs on job boards, and allocate the assignment to Talent Search Partners.

We received hundreds of resumes. After a painstaking shortlisting process, we identified 5 people who were promising. We had a telephonic interview and called them for an interview. After the interview, we were buoyant that we had identified the ideal fit for the position. It had cost us dearly and took almost 45 days to go through the process. But still, we were all happy with the outcome. We had the ideal candidate for the position who would fit exactly into the role.

I called him up to discuss the offer and make him comfortable with our company and its policies. After going through the entire formality, I said, "You know, we have spent $30,000 to find you. Our company stops at nothing to get the right candidate." Our next Technical Manager was impressed.

But what he told me stunned me, "All you had to do is go through your email inbox a couple of months back. I had applied for a vacancy with the company."

PS: This is an imaginative story, but I am sure you will understand the underlying fact behind the story.

Maintaining a searchable resume database will surely help you recruit faster and cheaper!

Thanks for your time, folks. The story is over; go back to sleep. Psst, I am sorry; go back to work!

Ranjit,

Today, automating recruitment actually helps in a big way. I have taken it up to help recruiters opt for it. And yes, my product and brand will benefit, so will the recruiters. It is a win-win game. Hope you liked the article.

More to come... :?

Thanks and Regards,
Shankar

An eye-opener story for those who post vacancies, receive applications but then never bother to keep track. Until now, I was one of them. But seriously, I've learned a good lesson today.

Thanks.

I like the sentence, 'I have taken it up to help recruiters opt for it.' Actually, Priya has sent me the proposal for RecruitPro. Have yet to go through it to have a feel of it.

On the one hand, it might amuse people. On the other hand, it's really true that generally, CVs sent to companies end up lying like trash in a bin; hardly anyone bothers to keep count of them. If done properly, it would be a really great practice and hence would help HR in every aspect, be it money or the pain.

Hi profession12345,

Thank you for the comment. Instead of going to each post and putting your message, why don't you put up a message separately? It will be much more helpful.

Shankar

Dear Sunil,

Greetings for the day ahead!

Instead of thanking Mr. Shankar for a good post, you have taken it upon yourself to expose the nasty nexus between the HR manager and headhunters. When posting on a public forum, you should be careful. There is no point in generalizing when you don't have enough evidence or precedents. You must go through the benefits of recruitment outsourcing (there are many posts on CiteHR regarding that) before writing something like this.

Hope you get the message.

I sincerely agree with your view as I am also working in Corporate Recruitment. Even though we have a huge database available to us, we still hire outside consultants for internal hiring. So, we see there is cost-cutting happening in the market, but the management still prefers to go with a heavy and expensive budget. It can be challenging to understand why this is the case.
