Hi Friends,
I really need your help in this coz I am utterly confused.
There is a SAP-HR course from Semeins which is about to start from 23rd Feb'09 and its around 3.10Lacs including the certification and taxes. Its a 20days full-time course.
I have around 5yrs of experience as a Generalist HR and now want to try my hand at SAP.
My apprehensions are:
1. Will getting the training directly from Semeins be much better than getting it from other institutes? (in hyderabad)
2. If no, then which is the best institute which offers this course in Hyderabad?
3. I have no clue about SAP as of now. How will the job prospects be after i complete my training and cert?
4. Will I have an added advantage if the training is directly from Semeins?
Looking forward to hearing from you all soon as I have to enroll by this weekend else, i'll loose the seat.
Regards,
Deepthi

Hi,

First of all kindly know what is SAP, SAP is nothing just a ERP software like similar to MS Excel only difference is that you can customize SAP according to your needs. And for that customization you have to undergo training and spend money to learn that customization. That customization can be functional or technical. For technical obviously it will change your field and it requires some prerequisites of computer language. Other thing is functional wherein you will be closely working with a technical person and giving him functional inputs of HR so that he can design the framework for your client organisation or for your own organisation. And the lowest level of knowledge required for working on SAP is as end user. for one year I have worked on SAP as end user, so when I work as end user the systems are already set and are working in place by the functional and technical consultants and I just do data entry and generate the customized reports. So for HR people general knowledge and simple knowledge is enough to be end user of SAP, like just as a part of HR we need to view the reports in SAP, generate reports and keep updating the database. But if you want to go much deeper into it then you need to forget all other aspects of HR, because once you spend so much money and become a SAP Functional Consultant what you will be doing is simple building frameworks for either one or more than one clients so that the employees like me who are working there can easily enter data and generate reports. So you will only prepare blueprints and trouble shoot the problems which occur in implementation. In this you may be required to travel onsite also, as per the job and company requirement or if you get ajob in a company as their consultant you may be only having the work of first implementing the system and then just maintainingit and troubleshooting the problems, just as Network engineer does for networking n computers same sap consultant does for SAP.

Technologies are rapidly changing and SAP is ERP software tomorrow well not so soon but amendments and modifications and changes are bound to happen which do not happen so quick in case of Generalist HR profile, so you need to be on the prowl and keep grabbing these amendments and modifications and learning new technologies, and in short your job will become more computer oriented rather than now where it is both computer n people oriented.

Dear Deepthi
Ravi has stated few very important points that u need to understand
1. Siemens is alright a premier institute but u need to learn SAP then go for certifications & all
2. It does expensive from Siemens. I would rather suggests u to take traning from different place(other then siemens) Get the basics right & then go for Siemens
After that u will gain some confidence to exceed further in SAP field.
Hope this will helps to u go further.

Thank you all for the help.
So, I am clear that I shouldnt go for Semiens untill I get a basic training in SAP from other institutes.
But, Which Institute?

As of now all companies are looking only for candidates with an implementation experience,so the trend will continue for sometime
what you can do is not waste 3 lakh at siemens but instead learn sap from someone who is actually working in a company for maybe 4-5 years and try getting as much real time(implementation knowlege from him) and then try getting into a company....otherwise look for sap partner companies from where u can claim experience...anyways its a tough task ahead...i knw because im caught in the middle of it...but success bears the golden fruit as sap pays excellently!!1
