The Japanese have always loved fresh fish. But the waters close to Japan have not held many fish for decades. So to feed the Japanese population, fishing boats got bigger and went farther than ever.

The farther the fishermen went, the longer it took to bring in the fish. If the return trip took more than a few days, the fish were not fresh. The Japanese did not like the taste.

To solve this problem, fishing companies installed freezers on their boats. They would catch the fish and freeze them at sea. Freezers allowed the boats to go farther and stay longer. however, the Japanese could taste the difference between fresh and frozen and they did not like frozen fish. The frozen fish brought a lower rice.

So fishing companies installed fish tanks. They would catch the fish and stuff them in the tanks, fin to fin. After a little thrashing around, the fish stopped moving. They were tired and dull, but alive.

Unfortunately, the Japanese could still taste the difference. Because the fish did not move for days, they lost their fresh-fish taste. The Japanese preferred the lively taste of fresh fish, not sluggish fish.

So how did Japanese fishing companies solve this problem? How do they get fresh-tasting fish to Japan?

To keep the fish tasting fresh, the Japanese fishing companies still put the fish in the tanks. But now they add a small shark to each tank. The shark eats a few fish, but most of the fish arrive in a very lively state. The fish are challenged.

As soon as you reach your goals, such as finding a wonderful mate, starting a successful company, paying off your debts or whatever, you might lose your passion. You don't need to work so hard so you relax.

Like the Japanese fish problem, the best solution is simple. It was observed by L. Ron Hubbard in the early 1950's. "Man thrives, oddly enough, only in the presence of a challenging environment."

Put a shark in your tank and see how far you can really go!

>>>>>>>>>>> The cow with the owner <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
The Teacher was walking through the market place with his students. They saw a man dragging a cow by a rope. Teacher told the man to wait and asked his disciples to surround them. “I am going to teach you something” and continued...
“Tell me who is bound to whom? Is the cow bound to this man or the man is bound to the cow?
The students said without hesitation “Of course the cow is bound to the man!. The man is the master. He is holding the rope. The cow has to follow him wherever he goes. The man is the master and the cow is the slave.”
“Now watch this”, said the teacher and took a pair of scissors from his bag and cut the rope. The cow ran away from the master and the man ran after his cow. “Look, what is happening”, said the Teacher .
“Do you see who the Master is? The cow is not at all interested in this man. The cow in fact, is trying to escape from this man.” This is the case with our mind.
Like the cow, all the non-sense that we carry inside is not interested in us. We are interested in it, we are keeping it together somehow or the other. We are going crazy trying to keep it all together under our control.
The moment we lose interest in all the garbage filled in our head, and the moment we understand the futility of it, it will start to disappear. Like the cow, it will escape and disappear.” We can allow disappearing of all the unwanted things from our mind and feel relaxed.

Once a saint, along with his follower, was traveling together and passing through a village. There lived a family headed by Mr. John. They had a big piece of barren land and a cow. The Saint asked Mr. John if they could stay with them. Mr. John agreed and mentioned that his family was fully dependent on the cow's milk and he could only share that as food with them. The saint agreed. The follower suggested they work on the barren land to grow crops, but the saint remained silent.

In the evening, Mr. John gave the saint and his follower their share of milk. Mr. John's family somehow managed with the little milk left. During the night, the Saint woke up and asked his follower to untie the cow. The follower hesitated, fearing the cow would run away into the jungle. However, the saint insisted, and the follower reluctantly untied the cow, which then ran off into the jungle. The Saint and the follower also left the place during the night.

On the way, the follower expressed his remorse, stating that Mr. John's family had shared what little they had and that they had wronged them by letting the cow escape. The follower felt they should not have done that to a family that had been kind to them. The Saint remained silent and advised the follower to wait for the right time for his response.

After a few years passed, the Saint asked his follower to accompany him back to Mr. John's village. Upon their return, they discovered that there was now a large house, many cows, and abundant crops across the land. Mr. John's family was living happily. The follower was astonished and delighted to see the family thriving. He inquired of the Saint what had enabled this transformation. The Saint explained that with just one cow and the barren land, the family had managed to sustain themselves. However, when the cow was gone, they were forced to work on the land, stepping out of their comfort zone. This effort led to successful crop cultivation, wealth, and prosperity. The lesson learned was that in life, one must face challenges and step out of their comfort zone to achieve what they are capable of. Just like killing the cow symbolized leaving the comfort zone to confront challenges and succeed in life.
