Dear Sritha. R,
There is a huge difference between appointment letter and a offer letter. Offer letter means company offers a person to join the concern (person may or may not join the concern) and Appointment letter means proof of appointment it means that a person is accepting the offer and ready to work for the concern and agree with the terms and conditions of the appointment with the concern.
Hope this will meet your requirement.
For further keep in touch

I need one information.
I have resigned and given one month's notice to company but company wants me to continue my service till 2 months notice period as per the Offer letter.
Company is also not ready to give me resignation acceptance and neither approving my 1 month relieving date.
Is this really true that company can take legal action against the employee if they do not serve complete notice ?
I am ready to pay Notice pay penalty.
Please advice and let me know what all precautions i have to take.

Offer Letter would be given to anyone who is getting selected and the company is happy with after all the interview and negotiation process.
Oppointment Letter would be given only to the people who accepts the offer and the terms and conditions and joins the company.

I think the letter of Intent(intimation) & offer are almost the same. Whereas by having an appointment letter, a new joinee comes under the obliligation of the policies and procedures/management norms of the company.
