Dear All,
We have all studied something or the other about conflict management, I would like all of you to go through this and give your valuable inputs.
* What Is conflict?
Conflict is the condition in which people’s concerns (the things they care about) appear to be incompatible with someone else.
The best way to manage conflict is to think and act in ways that help prevent conflict in the first place.
Conflict occurs when people view the same situation / issue in different ways.
*When does conflict Arises??
A single conflict situation can be perceived
as either real or non-existent.

##Do this Conflict Exercise::
Describe three situations where conflict surfaced:
Family Member
Friend
Co-worker – or work related
Answer the following:
Describe the situation – what was it?
How did you feel? What were the emotions?
What happened as an outcome?
Was it resolved?
If so, how?
If not, will it be resolved?
Why or why not?
What shapes our preferences for dealing with conflicts:
Background, upbringing
Communication/social skills
Job responsibilities/position
Cultural norms/environment
Work life vs. personal life
Past experience (use what works)
*Problem with conflicts
Creates unhealthy competition
Creates stress
Creates hurt feelings/lowers morale
Leads to low productivity
Leads to hostility and fear
Blocks communication
Undermines teamwork
Imposes obstacles
*There are some benefits too::
Promote creativity
Promotes innovation
Challenges the status quo (avoid groupthink)
Ignites debate about how to better our practices
Triggers behavior changes
Conflict is not always bad – conflict focused on ideas and based on a shared desire for the best result is healthy and positive too.
SHare your views on this article, I know it is less of an article and more of an exposure to understanding CONFLICT MANAGEMENT.
Cheers :)

hey archana.. Hi...
U've picked up a very interesting topic.. here's some info frm my side..
“Opposites attract…… but they cant’ stand each other.” This situation is common in many organizations..
Here i want to talk of something on resolving conflicts.. As quoted by you, one of the reasons of Conflict is Perception.. Hence understanding the Nature of Perception is very important. By the reading the example given below one would be able to understand how important it is to understand the Nature of Perception.
Take 3 men, each of whom is holding in his hand a small piece of wood. Each man lets go of this piece of wood.
In the case of the 1st man the wood falls downwards.
In the case of the 2nd man the wood goes upwards.
In the case of the 3rd man the wood remains just where it is.
The behavior of the wood in the 1st case is perfectly normal, logical & expected. The behavior of the wood in the other two cases is Bizzare, Extraordinary & completely unbelievable. Isn't it ?
But this is only b'coz we expect the 2nd & the 3rd man to be in the SAME 'universe of action' as the 1st man.
Universe of action is the system or set of circumstances in which something is taking place.
In the 1st case the wood falls downwards in the expected manner. We expect all 3 men to be standing on the surface of the earth in a normal way. But we fail to consider other possibilities. In the 2nd case the man is standing under water and in this universe the wood naturally floats upwards. And in the 3rd case the man is in an orbiting space-craft so the wood remains just where it is.
Thru this example we can see how strange and unexplainable behavior suddenly becomes obvious & logical.
So friends, plz consider the nature and the exact reasons behind certain behaviors which seem strange to you..
Regards..
