Core HR is nothing but optimising on people potential...especially today where training and development is very much a part of HR...however I do not know what exactly you had in mind...so its fine...

Dear Kumudha Babu,
Optimising human resources is quite broad area of HR. While working on broad areas, I found many of the HR professionals unable to do the following:
a) ability to write charge sheet, warning letter correctly. Ability to frame the terms of references when the enquiry is conducted (why HR professionals are unable to do this because they cannot download anything from Google. These issues are absolutely case specific).
b) Ability to understand the workplace issues and and design the training needs. Design objectives of the training programmes without doing copy paste from anywhere.
c) Understand why there are mistakes while processing the payrolls.
There are scores of issues. What I have given is quite basic. I may sound little old-fashioned. But the challenge is today's HR professionals are smart in all respects expect the basics.
If you develop the good drafting skills, this in itself is achievement. Not many HR professionals are good at drafting.
Ok...
