In an Establishment under T N Shops and Establishment Act, the working hours is prescribed as 48 hours in a week after which an employee can be given a week off of one day. In these circumstances in an establishment wishes to declare additional weekly off in the form of 1st & 3rd Saturdays in addition to regular week off of 4 sundays, whether the establishment can change its working hours uniformly 45 hours of a week including the Saturdays where an establishment is required to work full day or otherwise it can be by 45 hours a week and 48 hours of a week according to the number of working days in a week. If so, whether it can be permissible under the said Act an establishment have two different working hours. Request expert advise in this matter.
