No its nt mandatory for the employer to pay contribution on 6500+ basic..Employee whose basic is more than 6.5k has the choice of deciding, if he wants or not to contribute to his PF A/C.
If also the employee contributes more than 12% or more than the basic salary 6.5k , the employer is not bound to match the employee in the same way in both the cases..It's just employee's sole wish.

Employer is bound to pay pf beyond 6500 when a employee is already the member of the EPF suppose an employees while joining is getting 6000 after one year his basic increases & he gets 7000 as basic in that case employer has to pay contribution for pension fund on 6500 & other contribution as per company rules.

Mr Soumik Mukherjee, perhaps, did not understand the real import of the question of Veerabhathini. Once covered, always covered is the principle in EPF act. If the employees was covered under PF scheme, because his wage and DA/retaining allowance etc, was below 6500, he will continue to be covered even when his wage goes up beyond 6500 in the same company. I think Section 26A of the EPF & MP act deal with this matter. Only thing is that his contribution can be pegged to what is due on Rs 6500 pm.
