Dear Friends,
I have seen most of the organisations the HR persons always face a problem with the Accoounts and Finance personnel. While day to day administrative activities why ? Some organisation now the bosses are with a designations like GM / DGM (Commercial & Administration). They are alway dominating the HR activities, while the HR professionals are just like that. The managements are also giving importance to them. How the HR Personnel in that situation ? Comments ...............please.

Hi Kumar,
I agree with your comment. Even I have come across such type of situation where the accounts dept tries to get involved more in HR activities.
On my observation, I can say, this is mostly due to management's failure to give a specific job description to each department individually, the other one, the accounts dept is not much aware of what all includes in HR activities. Always the accounts department is under assumption that all the monitory matters including dealing with vendors relates to them. Mostly this situation is in small companies where there is no seperate accounts and finance departments. They are not aware of the fact that it is the responsibility of different departments to make their own budget plan and get it approved by the higher management. It is the management's decision to finalize the approval of the budget and the accouts department has no right to reject it except sanction the approved budget and maintain a record of it.
To avoid this, the management needs to be more specific in giving clear cut job descriptions to them specifying which all incluldes their duties.

Hi Kumar/Sirishan
In my view both HR and Accounts depts are inter-related, in issuance of salaries, reimbusements and all monitory related accounts are involved whereas HR should approve the reimbusements, sanction leaves, etc., this approvals are required for accounts to keep an account.

Hi,
I totally agree with Siva because I am familiar with both departmental activities. Finance and HR are inter-related. Salaries benefit payments, compensation and insurance schemes etc. require both department inputs. Building up a harmony with both departments and having an understanding with regard to the activities can help smoothen the relationship for both departments.
Having a negative attitude such as finance thinking HR dominates and vise versa may lead no where. Cooperating and assisting each others activities may help achieve both departments’ objectives.

Hi,
It is very true that HR Dept. is a very favorite dept. for the Accounts personnel. It is because Both dept. are inter related with one other. Accounts personnel always bang on the HR dept because as it has seen a regular practice that employees come to Accounts people for Lta claims or any types of claims and wants them to pass these without the proper bills.
This makes accounts people angry and wants the hr dept to intervene in it have a control over it.
The HR dept. on the other hand raises its hand saying that it is the matter u has to solve it.
And the battle keeps on going..........

Dear PBS,
I agree with you that there is unnecessary interference in day to day activities of HR Department. It is the weakness of the management that it fails to provide clear Job Descriptions and above all the role of management head is very very important.
While in India in working in the same group, felt the change in the working atmosphre, at the change of the management. At one time there was no coordination and just an unnecessary struggle to prove ones importance in the system, at the other hand after the management change there was perfect discipline and the interfering mentality disappeared and got an opportunity to work in one of the best working atmosphere.
its the attitude of management that what type of work culture they want in their organisation. HR has its own role and Finacne have its own, when there is positive and mutual coordination its a best enviorment to work but it is very rare.

I do agree with Siva and Asra that both HR and Accounts are interrelated. BUt the problem arises when one interferes in others issues. A clear cut job description should be given to them to make them aware of what all includes their responsibilities.

Dear Friends,
Thanks for your valuable coments. In a general practice If any problems comming then only recognize the HR department. or any important occasion which are related public relations. Generally the management is always keen interest on Accounts Department because of all the dealings related to the finance and assects of the company. But don't think that HR is not important. From Born (Starting) to Death (Ending) HR is HR.

Dear PBS,
To some extent I agree with you. But now the business culture is changing and HR has also been given the importance. As Accounts is always related to the Finance and Financial condition of the Company so it is obvious that they have a little undefined edge over HR.
Thanks
