Mr.Victor is the marketing manager, looking after two sensitive products-Max and Priya (both are luxury soaps) - produced by Hindustan Trading Company. After a service of fifteen years, Mr.Victor now enjoys the second position in the marketing department of his company.
Recently the company introduced a new soap for the elite class of customers. It was launched in all the big cities of India, under the overall supervision of Mr. Victor.
Mr. Victor now travels twenty days a month and works for fourteen hours a day. His work is well appreciated by the chairman of the company. And was also rewarded with three direct increments.
As an obvious result of this new development, Mr. Victor now looks after all the three sensitive soap. Looking at his dashing approach to marketing, the company's chairman now wants to give him the additional responsibility of an 'international launch' of these products.
Unfortunately, Mr. Victor is now suffering from high blood pressure and has gone for medical treatment. Although he is on leave now, he has to resume
his duties within a week. As per the doctor's advice, Mr. Victor was supposed to take one month's rest.
Mr. Victor's wife works in the government department and they are blessed with two school going sons.

What is your advice for Mr. Victor?

Ans

1.My advice to him is to strike a balance in the work & life. He has been doing hard work for 15 years and this has given him this good position and obviously he has got a working and successful wife, that is also a by-product of his successful career. I do not know weather she would have married him without his success.

Meanwhile, he can not throw away the reward of 15 yrs of hard work and let someonelse come into his shoes and enjoy all his success.

My advice him to cut down on his daily work hours to 8-10 hrs per day, less traveling, start regular exercising, devote more time to family and pass that additional responsibility of an 'international launch' to somebody else and try to be happy with what he has got as of now. Let him improve on his base (health and personal life) for some time and make himself ready for bigger challenges once again.

2.Mr. Victor should not forget that the blood pressure is a other side of increments for his hard physical and mental work. He is not a lonely man. He has wife and children. He is the leader of the family. His help and guidance are important part of his life. At the same time, if he lost his job, the BP would rise more and more. So he should understand the situation and take more care about health. He must take proper rest to compensate his hard work.

'Health is wealth'. Wealth is very important but not at the cost of health.

3. He should not QUIT..........after a week he should speak to the chairman and let him know that one cannot do everything by himself, there are physical constraints, if he wants to stay fit in the job.

He want to DELEGATE, some, not-so-important work, down line, so that he can concentrate on Important ones like forming strategy, decision making, coordinating with all participants et al.

4. My choice is work, unless he made enough money and can retire.

Because, even if he undergoes the treatment, he may get in to the same situation once he resumes work. Hence, he should take up some thing like Yoga and change his habits to stay healthy.

He can not ignore to resume work as the company needs his services. And, if he takes rest and another person excels in this role, there are al chances of Victor taking permanent rest at home.
