Dear All
There is a requirement that all sub-stations should have minimum two exits. I believe it's from Indian Electricity Rules...Can anyone lead me to the clause number in which this is mentioned. I am not able to trace it out... Looking forward to get the help from any of the forum members ...
Thanks in advance...

Dear Dipil,
I don't think sub-stations supposed to have minimum two EXIT’s I didn’t refer IE standard I don’t have it as well but I visited lot of substation most of them have one entry and one exit it vary from size of the Sub-Station building. I’ll try to pull the reference from NFPA 101-2009 (if you needed). I could be wrong though, so check it out.

Dear dipil,
In NFPA 101 Life Safety Code 2009, Section 7.5.4.2 Where two accessible means of egress are required, the exits serving such means of egress shall be located at a distance from one another not less than one-half the length of the maximum overall diagonal dimension of the building or area to be served. This distance shall be measured in a straight line between the nearest edge of the exit doors or exit access doors, unless otherwise provided in 7.5.4.2.1 through 7.5.4.2.3.
I will forward the NFPA 101 Life Safety Code 2009 to you now for your reference.

Dear Raghu
Thanks a lot.Do share with me, I will check it out...
@ All: In the mean time I came to know that the requirement is wide IS 1644 - 1988. Code of practice for fire safety of buildings (general) : Exit requirements and personal hazard.
I gone through it. There is nothing specially mentioned about Electrical Sub-station. But I think with the below statements from IS 1644, we can come to a conclusion that it is required for Sub-stations also:
"2.7.1 Gencrul Rcquircmcnt -All buildings which are more than 15 m in height and all buildings used as educational ( B ), assembly ( D 1, institutional ( F ), industrial ( G 1, Storage ( H ), and hazardous ( J ) occupancies and mixed occupancies with any of the aforesaid occupancies, having area more than 500 mZ on each floor should have a minimum two staircases."
&
"2.7.13 Industrial ( G ) 2.7.13.1 Not less than two exits should be provided for every floor or section, including basements used for industrial purposes or uses incidental thereto."...
If any of you have any further inputs surely please let me know...
