Dear Lalitha,
Of the five, you are one of the HODs. Every day your Unit Head shouts on you. You are unable to understand his tempestuousness. However, you have not written what is your designation, when did you join this company, when this Unit Head joined the company. Lately, he is repugnant on you but earlier how were your relations with him?
The following could be one of the reasons as to why he is shouting on you:
a) He nurture a distaste for you all along. Earlier, he did not demonstrate his distaste but now he no longer hides it.
b) Did you commit some grave mistake in the recent past? Did you lose his faith because of this mistake?
c) By chance, did you press his wrong nerve? Did you encroach on his personal life? Does he perceive you against his caste, creed, religion, language etc?
d) Does he want to bring his own person in your place? Is he tiring you out by offloading his fake frustration on you?
e)Is your salary more than market standards? Does your management someone in your place with the salary lower than yours?
f) Does someone from management want you out? Are they shooting but from the shoulders of the Unit Head?
There could be even 1-2 more reasons than what I mentioned.
Solution: - Solution to this problem can be given provided we understand what is in the mind of the Unit Head.
We need to decode his behaviour. You have two options at your hand. One is to start searching for a new job. Sooner you get a new one, quit the existing employment immediately. The second one is to put up an application against the Unit Head for his unwarranted brusqueness. However, this option is fraught with the risk. Generally, the management favours the seniors and they may take the side of the Unit Head without bothering to know the ground realities. In that case, this will embolden Unit Head further and his shouting could go up a little more.
Thanks,

Ms. Lalitha Morning,
Search for new opportunity is right by going through your post. May be your are more qualified and handling things better than Unit head also can be cause of concern to.
You have two options at your disposal.
1. Be brave. Understand Unit Head's inconveniences and discomforts; which you can diffuse. Its time consuming; if solved its skyrocket your potential.
2. Search for New Opportunity. Its safe and no dent to your potential and confidence. Fight has no purpose in the present day scenario. As, this is the issue being grapple in present day office atmosphere.
All the Best
