Traditional productivity measures like single-factor productivity, multiple-factor productivity, and labour productivity are perfectly applicable to your industry as well. However, as these originated in the manufacturing sector and as the IT professionals have a firm belief that their industry is different, they are disinclined to accept these measures.
A few measures related to IT are as below:
a) The number of codes written per day per person
b) Accuracy of the codes in %
However, these are the KPIs. These are not productivity measures. There is a difference between the measures of productivity and KPIs. The productivity is measured for the:
c) Organisation
d) Department and
e) Individual
Measuring productivity is a time-consuming process. It requires a thorough study of the systems and processes of each department. Furthermore, it requires a thorough study of each position as well.
